About the Role

Medway Local Authority is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Qualified Social Worker to join our Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) Team. This unique and rewarding role involves supporting vulnerable young people who have arrived in the UK without family, helping them to navigate their new environment and access the resources they need to thrive. You’ll have the opportunity to make a lasting difference in the lives of these young people, providing guidance, safeguarding, and care tailored to their unique needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand each young person's needs, cultural background, and potential safeguarding requirements.
  • Develop and implement care plans that provide stability, safety, and opportunities for personal growth.
  • Collaborate with partner agencies to ensure a holistic approach to support, including access to education, mental health services, and community resources.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records, ensuring compliance with safeguarding and legal requirements.
  • Build trusting relationships with young people, helping them to develop a sense of safety and belonging within their new environment.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
  • Experience working with children and young people, ideally with unaccompanied minors or in a similar safeguarding role.
  • Strong cultural awareness, empathy, and communication skills to support young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
