Role Overview
As the Assistant Team Manager, you will support the Team Manager in overseeing the Children in Care team, ensuring high-quality social work practice and positive outcomes for children and young people. You will provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to social workers, ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities and promoting best practice. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced social worker with leadership skills to take the next step in their career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Team Manager in the day-to-day management of the Children in Care team.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to social workers, ensuring effective case management.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality social work assessments and care planning for children in care.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of care plans that reflect the individual needs of children and promote stability.
  • Monitor and manage team performance, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and local policies.
  • Lead multi-agency meetings and contribute to decision-making processes to safeguard children and promote their well-being.
  • Deputise for the Team Manager as required and manage the team effectively in their absence.

Requirements

  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and Social Work England registration.
  • Significant post-qualification experience in children’s services, ideally within a Children in Care team.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures related to children’s social care.
  • Proven experience in supervising and supporting social work teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage complex cases and support staff in achieving positive outcomes for children.
